1 / 2Peranakan Museum
📍 Museum, Central
Housed in the beautifully restored Tao Nan School building, this museum traces Peranakan culture across three airy, light-filled floors covering family life, fashion, and origins.
I had a really good time at the Peranakan Museum. The building itself is beautiful, three floors connected by an open central atrium that lets in lots of natural light. It feels bright, airy, and really charming from the moment you walk in. The galleries are easy to explore and filled with interesting pieces like colorful porcelain, traditional outfits, beadwork, and jewelry. Everything is presented clearly, so even if you’re not familiar with Peranakan culture, you can still enjoy and understand the stories behind each item. I also loved how the whole building is designed. The pastel colors, wooden details, and classic windows make the place feel warm and elegant. It’s a great spot to slow down and take in the details. The layout is family-friendly too, spacious enough for kids to walk around without feeling cramped. It’s one of those museums that feels relaxing instead of overwhelming. Overall, it’s a lovely place to spend an hour or two. If you’re in Singapore and want something cultural but easy to enjoy, this museum is definitely worth a visit!
🏆 Family Action Verdict
The spacious three-floor layout lets children explore at their own pace without feeling cramped. The building itself — bright, airy, and architecturally charming — captures attention from the moment you walk in.

“This museum aims to preserve the history, culture, and lifestyle of the Peranakan people for future generations. The first floor of the three-story building houses exhibits related to their lifestyle and culture, the second floor displays furniture and tableware, and the third floor displays clothing and accessories. The exhibits are well preserved, making it easy to imagine what life was like back then. It will take about 1.5 hours to see the whole thing. Last admission is after 6:00 PM.”

“Lovely museum with compelling exhibitions in a stunning building. The gift shop is stellar. I really enjoyed the interview videos in the “Origins” exhibition as it gave you a firsthand insight into the complexity of Peranakan identity. The art and fashion of the upper floor exhibitions were also stunning. Only downside was that we missed a guided tour because it didn’t run during Lunar New Year.”
