1 / 3Tortoise Sanctuary
đ Southern Islands, Central
Small open-air tortoise sanctuary on Kusu Island where visitors can hand-feed hundreds of tortoises competing for corn. Reached by a 25-minute ferry from Marina South Pier. Best combined with the island's Chinese temple visit.
Nature and quite place to enjoy your mind and relax from crowded activities in the town. Small island with nature turtles around and you can see many type of fish . Just take 25 menit rude a boat from Marina South Pier .
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for families with young children who enjoy animal encounters in a calm, unhurried setting. The tortoise feeding is genuinely engaging, and the temple adds cultural interest. Manage expectations on animal variety â the sanctuary is small and tortoise numbers vary by visit. The ferry timetable structures your day, so check schedules in advance.

âI find it hard to imagine a scenario where someone would visit Kuzu Island but not visit the Tortoise Sanctuary. First of all, the island is not that big. Secondly, there is not that much else to see. But most importantly, thirdly, this is, after all, Kuzu (Tortoise) Island. The enclosure is not all that large but is packed with tortoises. If I were to make a small complaint, I wish there was some kind of sign explaining the history of the sanctuary or something about the zoology of tortoises. Interestingly, other attractions on the island seem to be well signed and explained. I had to deduct one point for lack of signage. Sailor Sinay says: There is a secondary tortoise pond inside the compounds of the Chinese Daoist Temple where you can get a closer view of the tortoises and there is a sign with the explanation of the tortoise legend that guides this island at the pier area.â

âHundreds of small tortoises eagerly nibbled the corn that was fed to them. It was fascinating to watch them crawl over each other, all competing to reach the food.â

âVery small island, not much to do other than seeing tortoise and one temple. Good to come with kids.â

Overview
The Tortoise Sanctuary on Kusu Island holds hundreds of small tortoises in an open enclosure. Visitors can feed them corn, watching the animals jostle and compete for food. The island also features a Chinese temple a short walk away. The full island circuit, including both the sanctuary and temple, suits a relaxed half-day trip. A monitor lizard has been spotted in the shelter area on occasion.
